I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore.

My research focuses on how to improve government institutions. I have completed two large-scale field experiments in Bangladesh, one studying how performance scorecards can change the behavior of government bureaucrats and another about the effects of village courts. I also have several working papers aimed at understanding government institutions using non-experimental methods. Currently, I am pursuing a research agenda focused on reducing the harms of air pollution in South Asia.

I mostly work on projects that, if successful, may have a large positive welfare impact on the world. Some of my work is inspired by Effective Altruism (EA) and I teach a course on EA at NUS. You can learn more about EA and get lots of helpful advice about how to use your career to have a large positive impact at 80,000 hours.
